In this Spanish lesson we are going to learn more about the Spanish Present Subjunctive – El Presente de Subjuntivo. This is the seventh lesson in a series of nine Spanish video lessons on the topic. In this lesson we will look specifically at irregular Spanish verbs that change GO to GA and ZCO to ZCA in El Presente de Subjuntivo. In the previous lessons we looked at the regular Spanish verbs, other irregular Spanish verbs and how to use the Spanish Present Subjunctive with hopes, desires and wishes. In future lessons in the series we will look in detail at more irregular Spanish verbs related to the Spanish Present Subjunctive and more about when and how El Presente de Subjuntivo is used. The Subjunctive refers to a “mood” – how the speaker feels about an action rather than when an action takes place (past, present, future). The Subjunctive mood is rarely used in English, but is widely used in Spanish. So far we have studied Spanish verb tenses in the Indicative. The Indicative mood is used to express factual information, certainty and objectivity whereas the Subjunctive mood is used to express such things as doubt, possibilty, uncertainty, and subjectivity. The Spanish Subjunctive is complex and takes some work, but it is not as tricky as it first appears. It is fundamental to the Spanish language and so can definitely not be shyed away from. By the time we finish this series of eight Spanish video lessons I am sure you will feel much clearer and confident to get out and use the Spanish Subjunctive.
