More about “El verbo Tener” (the verb “To have” – I have, you have, he/she/it has, we have, you have, they have) in relation to the family in Spanish. The verb “To have” is a very useful verb to know. It is one of those verbs that we use all of the time. In our previous Spanish lesson we learned how to conjugate/modify from its basic form “El verbo Tener” for all of the different persons and now we are going to put what we have learned into practice. For example, “I have” is “Yo tengo” or simply “Tengo” in Spanish, so we can say: “I have a daughter”: “Tengo una hija”. The key at this stage is to remember how to conjugate each verb we see correctly for all persons. This is very tricky at first and don’t be surprised if you get a little frustrated. Spanish grammar in this respect is more complicated than English, but it is certainly not impossible and with a bit of practice you will find yourself remembering long lists of verbs and their respective conjugations off by heart in no time. I should also point out that Spanish grammar is by no means “more complicated” than English in every respect. There are times when you will be treated to some amazingly easy lessons and there are many instances where English is a lot more complicated than Spanish.
