In this Spanish lesson we are going to learn how to express need and interest using el verbo “necesitar” – the verb “to need” in Spanish (I need, you need, he/she/it needs, we need, you need, they need). We have already seen various other Spanish verbs in this course so far, such as “ser”, “estar”, “tener” and “ir”, and we learned how to conjugate (modify from its base form) these verbs for each of the different persons: yo, tú, usted, él, ella, nosotros, vosotros, ustedes and ellos. Here we will do exactly the same thing with “necesitar” and then practice making typical sentences using this Spanish verb such as “I need to go” – “Necesito ir” or “I don’t need to go” – “No necesito ir”. As I have mentioned before, you will see how easy it is to construct negative Spanish sentences (with the insertion of “no”) and questions in Spanish (with added “question” tone of voice only). Try to practice conjugating any new verb you encounter as much as you can until you remember it off by heart. The more you do it, the quicker you will get as you start to get a feel for each of the verb endings according to the person.
