“El verbo Estar” (the other verb “To be” – I am, you are, he/she/it is, we are, you are, they are). In a previous Spanish lesson we looked at the other Spanish verb “To be”: “El verbo Ser” and today we will analyse “El verbo Estar”. In English there is only one verb and its relevant conjugations for the verb “To be” so this double Spanish verb can be pretty confusing at first for many English speaking Spanish students. But don’t fret too much, I will explain clearly throughout the course of my Spanish video lessons exactly when to use “Estar” and when to use “Ser”. It is actually quite logical when to use one or the other and after you have gotten over the initial shock you won’t have too much trouble in mastering the verb “To be” in Spanish. It is important to remember when learning any foreign language that we don’t translate words from one language to another, we translate meanings. And many English verbs, “To be” among them, have a multitude of meanings.
